Summer Session Aid Disbursement Dates

Summer Session financial aid is credited to UC San Diego student accounts a few days before the beginning of the summer session you're enrolled in:

  • For Session 1, your student account will be credited beginning about 10 days before the first day of instruction June 18, 2022.

  • For Session 2, your student account will be credited beginning about 10 days before the first day of instruction July 23, 2022.

  • For Special Session (Session 3), your student account will be credited approximately 2 days before the start of your Session 3 classes.

    • Please note: as each Special Session has their own start date the fees, and financial aid cannot disburse earlier than 10 days before the first day of instruction, you may need to pay the balance due prior to receiving your Special Session financial aid. For questions, please contact the Summer Sessions office.

  • For Summer Sessions at other UC campuses, your student account will be credited approximately 2 days before the start of classes.

  • UC San Diego verifies enrolled units for each Summer Session before disbursing financial aid funds into your student account.

  • UC San Diego re-verifies your enrolled units at the end of each summer session add period.

Review your Financial Aid Required Documents and Tasks for 2021–2022 to be sure you have met all requirements for summer disbursement. Failure to meet the requirements will result in delayed disbursements for summer.

OTHER IMPORTANT SUMMER INFORMATION

  • Summer financial aid funds are divided and disbursed equally between the earliest starting and latest finishing sessions.

  • To avoid potential billing, report any additional summer resources to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office as this could affect your financial aid packaging.
  • If receiving funding from outside the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office we cannot guarantee that any funds that you are eligible for will arrive in time to pay your fees. As a result, students are responsible for full payment of your session fees by the fee deadline.
  • Please note that programs and amounts are subject to change due to federal, state and university funding limitations, changes in law, policy, or university procedure, and updated or corrected information.
  • Enrollment Change reminders:
    • Students must maintain a minimum of 6 units per summer session or combination of sessions.
    • Any enrollment change, even if you are not completely withdrawing from all summer changes, will likely affect the amount of your summer eligibility and may result in repayment of aid received or cancellation of disbursements.
    • The recalculation of financial aid in the summer is based on several factors, including:
      • withdrawing from the entire summer term
      • dropping one session
      • reducing units within a session
      • dropping one session but adding or keeping another session

Fee Deadlines

  • For UC San Diego Summer Session students

    If you owe a remaining balance, you are responsible for paying that amount and should do so by the fee deadline or your Summer Session classes will be canceled.

  • For Other UC Campus Summer Session Students

    If you'll be attending Summer Session at another UC campus:

    • Pay your fees by the campus deadline date.

    • If you are unable to pay your fees because you are waiting for a financial aid disbursement, contact the Summer Session office or registrar at that campus for instructions.

How do I know if I have enough financial aid to cover my balance?

Prior to the initial summer financial aid disbursement you can review offered and accepted summer aid by logging into My TritonLink and selecting 'Financial Aid', enter your UC San Diego User ID/PID and Password/PAC and then select year (for Summer 2022 select "2021-22".)

To determine if you have enough accepted summer financial aid to cover the balance due, compare the following amounts:

  • The accepted financial aid on the financial aid award confirmation; and
  • The balance for the Summer Session on TritonPay.
  • Do not include CARES Act Grant. This award refunds directly to students and does not automatically pay outstanding balances.
  • If you are attending multiple sessions, your aid will generally be split into multiple payments

Please note that enrollment changes may affect the amount of financial aid received, and enrollment adjustments made after financial aid is disbursed may result in a bill.

What happens once financial aid is disbursed?

Once the financial aid is disbursed you may review your student account on TritonPay to determine if there is either:

  • A pending summer payment due (if the accepted financial aid does not cover the full balance); or
  • No remainder balance due as the accepted financial aid is enough to cover the balance.

If the amount of financial aid exceeds the balance due, a remainder refund will be issued either through Direct Deposit (if enrolled) or as a refund check.

Reminders: Ensure all balances are paid in full by the published fee deadlines of the Summer Session in which you are enrolling, or you may be dropped from your classes. If accepting a student loan, allow at least 3-5 business days once the loan is accepted to disburse to your student account.

When is financial aid scheduled to disburse to my student account?

Summer financial aid is scheduled to disburse on the following dates:

  • Summer Session 1 2022: June 18, 2022
  • Summer Session 2 2022: July 23, 2022
  • Special Session 2022: approximately 2 days before the first day of instruction

When are Summer Session fees due?

When will I receive my summer financial aid refund?

Generally, refunds disburse for the enrolled term or session once instruction begins.

Where is the rest of my Pell grant?

The Federal Pell grant is pro-rated depending on enrolled and requires 12 units (full-time enrollment) for the Summer to receive the full Summer Pell amount. If enrolled in 6-8 units = 50% of the accepted Pell will disburse and at 9-11 units 75% of the Summer Pell will disburse.

OTHER COMMON SUMMER FINANCIAL AID QUESTIONS

Why wasn’t I awarded UC Summer grant?

Based on limited funding, eligible students are awarded on a first come, first serve basis based on an initial enrollment of a total of 6 units (waitlisted units do not count as enrolled) and need as determined by the 2021-22 FAFSA. Students are advised to enroll in at least 6 units for Summer Session as soon as possible as funds may be exhausted based on later summer enrollment.

How does tuition and fees work during the Summer?

Unlike the regular academic year, UC San Diego Summer Session fees are charged based on units enrolled and sessions attended. Therefore, fees (and financial aid) can fluctuate based on the number of enrolled units, unit adjustments and when they are adjusted in relation to campus fee refund deadlines. I am attending a Community College/a non-UC school for the Summer Session, can I receive Summer financial aid?

Please contact the financial aid office for that campus to determine your financial aid options through their campus. Students generally cannot receive financial aid from more than one school at once

Why didn’t my Summer financial aid disburse? Why do I owe a balance?

There may several reasons why your financial aid did not disburse. As a starting point you may want to confirm the following:

  • Summer financial aid is accepted on your FAS Student portal on My Tritonlink, all tasks must be completed. Please allow for several days processing time to account for recently accepted loans and or recent enrollment.
  • Was the financial aid enough to cover the balance due on your student account (see TritonPay)?
  • Enrollment of at least 6 units for one or more Summer Sessions (12 units for Full Time Pell grant). Waitlisted units do not count as enrolled.
  • You are in multiple Summer Sessions; remember Summer is considered one term for financial aid generally splits over the multiple Summer Sessions of attendance
  • Was there a recent enrollment change? Enrollment changes can lead to changes in financial aid, please allow for up to 1 to 2 weeks for processing time.
  • Are there any Student Financial Solutions (SFS) or other holds? If unsure please contact SFS or visit their website for additional instruction.

I dropped Summer Session classes and/or dropped one or both of my Summer Sessions, what will happen to my financial aid? Will I be billed?

It depends on if you drop one or both sessions and the timing of when you drop the units as to the effect on your financial aid. Also, remember that financial aid is one piece of your student account, and the overall balance may also be affected by the campus Summer Session refund schedule. Once your financial aid is updated based on enrollment changes you will be sent an email to check the updates to your financial aid package, and from there you can log into your student account to view the overall balance to determine if you owe a balance.
