Summer Session 2025: Application

Application

  • File your 2024-2025 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or CADAA( California Dream Act Application).
  • For undergraduate students, summer is a “trailer” term to the regular academic year, financial aid awards are based on the FAFSA or CADAA application you submitted for the current academic year (e.g. summer 2025 looks at the 2024-2025 financial aid application).

Enrollment Requirements

  • Prior enrollment in the winter and/or spring 2025 term.
  • Pending degree requirements at the conclusion of the spring 2025 term.
  • Enroll in at least half-time (6 units) as soon as possible.
    • 12+ units for full time Federal Pell Grant disbursement.
      • This can be any combination of summer sessions at UC San Diego or at another UC.
      • Waitlisted courses do not count toward this requirement.
      • To enroll at UC San Diego, use WebReg.
      • To enroll at another UC campus, use the registration process at that campus.
  • Meet financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements.
  • UC Summer Grant and Enrollment
    • Enrollment in at least 6 units will determine first come, first served UC Summer Grant awarding.
    • Changes to enrollment may aversely impact initial grant awards.
  • Students who are academically disqualified after spring quarter and are denied an appeal for reinstatement, Academic Advising will cancel your Summer Session courses.
    • You will be billed for disbursed Summer Session financial aid 

Undergraduates Attending Summer at Another UC

  • If attending another UC for the summer, in addition to filing the 2024-2025 FAFSA or California Dream Act application, enroll in at least half-time (6 units) at your host campus as soon as possible
    • 12 units for full term Federal Pell Grant disbursement.
    • Once UC San Diego confirms your Summer Session enrollment through the UC cross enrollment system, the office will generate your Summer Session financial aid offer if you meet the other eligibility requirements.
  • Attending Summer at UC San Diego from another UC?
    • Your home campus will generate your Summer Session financial aid offer based on your enrolled UC San Diego Summer units.

 Graduate Summer "Header" Programs

  • Certain programs are summer "headers" and are the first term for the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • Financial aid offers require the completion of the 2025-2026 financial aid application.
    • Including the completion of any required supplemental documents.
  • Students who wish to apply for Federal Direct Loan funds and other available aid for summer 2025 enrollment at UC San Diego, follow the instructions below:
    • Step 1: File your 2025-2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 2, 2025, to be considered for federal Direct Loans.
    • Step 2: Ensure your Social Security Number is on record with the Office of Graduate Studies.
    • Step 3: Check your @UCSD e-mail address often.
      • Your financial aid offer will be determined after you enroll in Summer Session courses.
      • An e-mail notification will be sent to your @UCSD e-mail address directing you to check TritonLink to view your official summer offer.
      • Summer awarding begins late May.
      • Reminder that changes to your enrolled courses may result in changes to your financial aid offer.
