Applying for UC San Diego Summer Session Financial Aid
- File your 2023-2024 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or California Dream Act Application. Students who qualify for the AB540 fee exemption and cannot file a FAFSA should file a California Dream Act Application. For additional information about the California Dream Act application, visit the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) website. Be sure to submit only one application.
- For undergraduate students, as summer is a “trailer” term to the regular academic year, financial aid awards are based on the FAFSA or California Dream Act application you submitted for this current academic year (e.g. Summer 2024 looks at the 2023-2024 financial aid application).
- Enroll in at least half-time (6 units) as soon as possible and full-time (12 units) for full term Federal Pell grant disbursement. This can be any combination of summer sessions at UC San Diego or at another UC.
- Waitlisted courses do not count toward this requirement.
- To enroll at UC San Diego, use WebReg.
- To enroll at another UC campus, use the registration process at that campus.
- For those eligible for UC Summer grant, your initial Summer Session enrollment date in at least 6 units will determine first come, first served UC grant awarding.
- You must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements for the current academic year.
- You must have enrollment in the Winter and or Spring 2024 term.
- You must not have completed your degree requirements by the end of Spring Quarter.
- Please note: if you are academically disqualified after Spring Quarter and are denied an appeal for reinstatement, Academic Advising will cancel your Summer Session courses. You will be billed for summer financial aid if the cancellation results in less than 6 units enrollment for Summer Session.
- Students who wish to apply for Federal Direct Loan funds and other available aid for summer 2024 enrollment at UC San Diego, follow the instructions below:
- Step 1: First, file your 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 2, 2024, to be considered for federal Direct Loans.
- Step 2: Ensure your Social Security Number is on record with the Office of Graduate Studies.
- Step 3: Check your @UCSD e-mail address often. Your financial aid eligibility will be determined after you enroll in Summer Session courses. An e-mail notification will be sent to your @UCSD e-mail address directing you to check My TritonLink to view your official summer awards. Summer awarding begins early May. Reminder that changes to your enrolled courses may result in changes to your financial aid offer.
- If attending another UC for the Summer, in addition to filing the 2023-2024 FAFSA or California Dream Act application, enroll in at least half-time (6 units) at your host campus as soon as possible (12 units for Federal Pell grant). Once UC San Diego confirms your Summer Session enrollment through the UC cross enrollment system, the office will generate your Summer Session financial aid offer if you meet the other eligibility requirements.
- Attending Summer at UC San Diego from another UC? Your home campus will generate your Summer Session financial aid package based on your enrolled UC San Diego Summer units.
