Submitting Documents

You may submit verification documents (tasks), including some appeals, by logging into the Financial Aid and Scholarships (FAS) student portal through your TritonLink and accessing the Document Submission Tool.

This tool allows you to complete your documents with an e-signature and is mobile friendly, so you can complete tasks using your phone and even opt in for text reminders.

Verification Documents

Verification is a process required by the state and federal government intended to improve the accuracy of the information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act Application. The university may not disburse student aid until the verification process is complete.

      • Deadlines: The 2024-25 document submission priority deadline for Continuing students is June 1st, and July 1st for First Year and Transfer students. Any theasks assigned after the deadline are due within 2 weeks of being notified. Submitting documents after the priority deadline may result in limited funding.

      • Process:
        • Documentation: If selected for verification, additional documents will be required, including the online UC San Diego Household verification form and federal tax returns (for specifics please log into your TritonLink).
          • If additional information is required you will be sent an email to your UC San Diego email address to log in to the Document Submission Tool for more information.
        • Results: After verification is complete, a financial aid offer will be created. Students will receive an email to their UC San Diego email address. Students will then be able to view their financial aid offer on TritonLink.

    • Corrections after verification? If you need to make corrections to the information submitted for verification please contact the UC San Diego Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.

      INSTRUCTIONS

Special Circumstances - Cost of Attendance Appeals (COA)

Unexpected expenses can occur despite careful planning of your academic year budget. If you incur certain costs above the expenses shown on UC San Diego's estimated costs of attendance, the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office may be able to add them to your budget and cover them with student loans, based on funding availability. On occasion, other types of funding may be available such as work-study or, for Graduate students, departmental funds.

2024-25 Cost of Attendance (COA) Appeals are scheduled to become available through the Document Submission Tool beginning August 2024. We will begin processing by the start of the Fall quarter.

Special Circumstances - Student Aid Index (SAI) Appeals

Formerly known as Family Contribution Appeals

Financial Aid and Scholarships provides a Special Circumstances – SAI Appeal when changes to a family’s financial situation and/or special circumstances occur that are not reflected on the initial aid application.

Based on the time of year, the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office prioritizes initial financial aid verification and packaging. If selected for verification, your appeal will not be reviewed until after verification is completed.

2024-25 SAI Appeals are scheduled to become available through the Document Submission Tool beginning August 2024. We will begin processing late Fall 2024.

PJ Unusual Circumstance Appeal Available Now

This appeal is for applicants who would like to request a review of their dependency status for financial aid consideration. Please read the following information before submitting a PJ Unusual Circumstance Appeal. Federal regulations state that a student is considered independent for financial aid if he or she can answer yes to any one of the dependency questions on the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application. The dependency criteria are the same for both applications.

If you do not meet any of the criteria and feel your circumstances warrant review for independent status, submit a PJ Unusual Circumstance Appeal form, and supporting documents, to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office for review. Please note, a student is not considered independent solely based on:

  • self-sufficiency
  • a parent's unwillingness to provide information
  • a parent's unwillingness to assist with educational expenses
  • a parent not claiming the student as a dependent for income tax purposes

You may also submit this appeal if you are older than 21 but not 24 and unaccompanied and either homeless or self-supporting and at risk of being homeless.

If you have read the above and wish to submit a PJ Unusual Circumstance Appeal, please see the Instructions.
